Redesigning the Computerlab

Project: To redesign the computer lab and fix any problematic computers.

Tools: Knowledge of computers, windows xp, various pc parts and accessories.

12/5/08 This week I have completely changed projects and have started to rearrange and fix computers here in the duxtech computer lab. This is a pretty big project with many different types of computers. So far there have been a few set backs but I have kept going none the less. My main goal is to do something about this two-tone computer that has more problems than I have solutions. It is the anti computer and if anything could be messed up it is on this computer. There are other computers that I just fixed that are now having problems and its very frustrating.

This week little was accomplished that is visible. We pretty well diagnosed all the computers but there are a few that we arent sure how to fix. But luckily there are more good computers than bad so in the end we may come out on top. Next week we will continue our work and will hopefully have more to show for a week of time.

Today we were asked to make another quick solution card which consist of 3 simple problems and the simple solutions that would be used to correct the problems. Here are my problmes:
-See if the computer turns of and if it doesnt check its power cable and the switch on the power supply
-If there is no video on the screen, check the video cable and/or replace the monitor
-if the os won't start up, then check the bios to see if there is an issue with the start up order
I am not a big fan of this quick fix list mainly because I feel that I have to look for problems to solve because none of the problems that really need attention are quick or easy. I think that it was a good idea to do once, but with my project I have 3 other people so the first time we did this pretty much everything was completed and now it is more of a waste of time than doing any good.

Today was relatively productive. We checked Mr. Connor's computer and found that it was working properly so that project is done. Then we took his old computer and stuck a new hard drive on it. Tomorrow I am going to install xp on it and use it to replace the two tone that has way too many issues. Tomorrow we also need to search the motherboard in his computer so we can learn how to reset the bios because right now it is password protected.

After break, we will need to create a basic layout for the desktop so we can get them set up and run deep freeze so nobody can mess with whats on it. There are also a few computers that still have issues that need to be addressed but for the most part they arent very complex problems.I know that one has to have windows installed and another needs a network hook up but those arent extremely complicated problems.
